Information Services encompass those aspects of library operations which combine information retrieval and customer service, increasingly with value added interpretation and display of that information. The NASA Goddard Library has taken on ambitious projects in recent years in support Goddard researchers. We have helped teams plan their literature reviews, located and organized data buried within papers, and created visualizations of the publications impacted by missions, instruments, and authors. These success stories were created with an eye towards emerging trends in library science and scholarly publishing, which will also be summarized.
Michael Chesnes became Deputy Program Manager for Select Federal Services at the NASA Goddard Library after 12 years as a Science Reference Librarian. Previously, he worked for contractors at the NASA Center for Aerospace Information in Hanover, MD and the NASA Headquarters Library in Washington, DC. He graduated with a master’s degree in Library and Information Studies from the University of Rhode Island and has served the Physics Astronomy-Mathematics (PAM) Division of the Special Libraries Association (SLA) as a Treasurer and in other roles.
